Nintendo Revolution renamed to “Wii”
Nintendo announced today that they have finally chosen a name for their upcoming video game console. The new console, previously codenamed Revolution, is called “Wii”, pronounced as “We”.

According to their website, http://revolution.nintendo.com/, Nintendo figures that the word “Wii” has positive connotations, can be pronounced in most languages, and doesn’t need to be abbreviated.
Thousands of fan site webmaster are hurrying to their favorite domain registrar to claim a domain name with “wii” in it - alas, most are probably already taken.
Interestingly, the domain wii.com doesn’t appear to be owned or registered by Nintendo at this point in time.
However, wiinews.com is a Nintendo domain and redirects straight to http://www.nintendo.com - looks like there may be a wii.revolution.com subdomain in the making.
There is little doubt that cynics and juveniles alike will have a field day with this new and suprising name (Wee Wee console comes to mind).
