Microsoft aiming for bigger impact in Asia

Microsoft Corp. has partnered with over 10 Taiwanese Firms to develop games for the Xbox 360 as they continue to look for ways to establish themselves in the Asian market. Following its disappointing launch into Japan, Microsoft will be hoping their next-generation console can make a bigger impact in the rest of the continent.

According to Taiwanese IT media, DigiTimes, Microsoft Taiwan has announced that a number of local producers of online and PC games are in the process of game development, but most of the titles will not be available until after the launch, scheduled for March 2.

Among the games to be launched are Spectral Force Chronicle from XPEC Entertainment and a revised version of existing game Ma-jiang by Fun Town, which are set to be released in April and mid-year respectively. Soft-World International and Softstar Entertainment plan to have their titles on offer by the end of the year, while InterServ International is preparing for a September 2007 launch with a game exclusively developed for the Xbox 360.

With Taiwanese game developers on board, Microsoft will stand a better chance of appealing to the Asian market after failing to attract the interest of Japanese gamers with their small selection of launch titles.
