Xbox 360 Australian release date confirmed

Microsoft has today announced that the Xbox 360 console will be released in Australia on March 2nd, 2006.
The March 2 2006 release date brings the Xbox 360 to Australian gamers more than three months after the console’s release in North America.
As in other territories, Australian gamers will be able to buy either the Xbox 360 Premium Pack at a price of AUD $649.95 or the Xbox 360 Core System for AUD $499.95.
At the current exchange rate at the time of writing (1 AUD = 0.73 USD), these prices correspond to USD $475.00 and USD $365.00 respectively, making the Xbox 360 video game console’s Australian price 20% more expensive compared to the cost of the system in North America.
David McLean, Regional Director, Xbox, praised the next-generation console’s improved graphical abilities and power, saying,
“Amazingly realistic gaming experiences are now almost within reach. Xbox 360 ushers in a whole new generation of gaming.
Game characters and environments are just like the real world or as fantastic as the imagination can dream up. The Australian lounge room has not seen richer or more detailed games.”
Regardless of which console package they choose to buy, all Australian gamers will enjoy a free Xbox Live Silver subscription.
A full list of launch titles for the Xbox 360′s Australian release will be made available in 2006.
