Microsoft reveals details of Hex 168 contest

The details of Microsoft’s Hex 168 contest have now been revealed via the official Hex 168 website.

Much like the Origen Xbox 360 announcement, the unveiling of the Hex 168 competition has left many gamers disappointed. Prior to the competition’s unveiling, the word in the forums was that the Hex 168 hype could lead to a Halo 3 release date announcement.

Instead, the Hex 168 campaign has turned out to be a contest with 360 Xbox 360 bundles comprising an Xbox 360 console, three games, a one year Gold Xbox Live membership, and a three day/two night trip for the winner to an Xbox 360 event up for grabs.

According to Microsoft, the Hex 168 promotion is:

“a skill contest in which participants can submit a photograph or video exhibiting ‘the power of hex,’ defined as the unusual among the mundane, for a chance to win.”

Entrants must submit either a digital photograph or short video showing ‘the power of hex’ via the Hex 168 website.

Entries can be submitted in one of three categories: the 0-1 person category, the 6 person category, or the 30 person category.

Entries in the 0-1 person category can feature either an example of ‘the power of hex’ or a depiction of one person ‘under the power of hex’.

Entries in the 6 or 30 person categories must feature footage or photographs of either 6 or 30 people ‘under the power of hex’.

Examples of ‘the power of hex’ are given at http://www.hex168.com/evidence.aspx. Interestingly, the hexadecimal value 168 equates to the decimal value 360.

The competition is open only to US residents aged 18 or over, and closes at noon on November 7, 2005. Full details of the competition’s rules are available at http://www.hex168.com/rules.aspx.
