Xbox 360 launch lineup of games

Which games will be available when the Xbox 360 comes out? Recent estimates set the Xbox 360 launch lineup at 17 titles: 5 from Electronic Arts, 5 from GTA creator Take-Two Interactive, 4 from Activision and 3 first-party titles created by Microsoft-owned Rare Studios and Bizarre Creations.

These titles would give gamers a taste of the action from a range of different genres: “Elder Scrolls: Oblivion IV” looks to be a winner for RPG gamers, while EA will cater to sports-loving gamers, and “Project Gotham Racing 3″ will provide next-gen racing action.

First party games available at launch: Project Gotham Racing 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo

The Xbox 360 launch lineup has been the subject of much speculation of late, with gamers wondering which next-gen titles will be available when the console launches on November 22 in North America.

Microsoft has stated that there will be 15-20 games available at launch, but whether these titles will go on sale the day the Xbox 360 hits retailers’ shelves remains unclear.

Much reference has been made to the “launch window” - a period of a few weeks following the console’s release - during which Microsoft looks to be hoping that many third-party titles will be released.

All games need to undergo a certification procedure to be approved for sale by Microsoft. As none of the games slated for launch day are through certification yet, Microsoft has not confirmed which games will be available on or shortly after the console release date.

J Allard affirmed Microsoft’s commitment to providing quality games and assured gamers that there would be adequate next-generation content available on launch day for those purchasing the Xbox 360.

“We’re hoping for all three of the first party titles to be there on day one [These are: Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero - Ed].

We’re hoping, though. We’re not going to sacrifice quality to do it […]

…these games are not far from being done, and if they’re three weeks after the launch, or they’re on launch day I don’t think it makes a significant difference.”
