Splinter Cell 4 to be released for next generation consoles

Software publisher Ubisoft has revealed that it will soon be releasing both current generation and next generation versions of its new title, “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 4.”

Though no exact date was announced, Ubisoft has stated that they plan to release the next installment in the Splinter Cell series in Autumn 2006. The French software giant is also publicizing a related website, http://www.bewaresamfisher.com. The site asks visitors to register and help track down Sam Fisher, informing them that, “Your search begins in November. Beware.”

Ubisoft has not yet released details of “Splinter Cell 4″, although Ubisoft president and CEO Yves Guillemot has promised that,

“Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® 4 will be even more thrilling and heart-pounding than its ground-breaking predecessors.

This new version will both enrich the gaming experience on current consoles and take full advantage of the capacities of next-generation consoles to deliver players an incredible gaming experience.”

A little research would seem to indicate that “Splinter Cell 4″ will pick up where “Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory” left off, placing Fisher back on the frontline of information warfare in 2008. As the NSA’s most elite black-ops agent, Fisher must infiltrate hostile territory to gather critical intelligence on a series of missions.

Fisher will be well-equipped to take on his enemies, with a combat knife, the Land Warrior rifle and the deadly inverted neck break attack in his arsenal.

As in “Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory”, “Splinter Cell 4″ will feature multiplayer and co-operative modes, allowing players to work as a team to complete infiltration missions.
