Black Xbox 360: Fact or Fiction?

Some were disappointed that the Xbox 360 wouldn’t be released in black, and suggested that perhaps Microsoft would release a black Xbox 360 to coincide with the launch of the Sony PS3.

Adding weight to this theory were the photos of black Xbox 360 development kits, however, TeamXbox soon revealed this to be only a rumor, stating that,

“That black Xbox 360 is the current Xbox 360 development kit and for the moment, Microsoft doesn’t plan to sell a black Xbox 360. ”

Recently, however, further photos showing the Xbox 360 in gray and black have surfaced, leaving gamers to wonder whether the console will be available in these colors at launch time.

One of the images reveals what appears to be a poster, showing black and white Xbox 360 consoles next to each other.

Judging by previous comments, many gamers would prefer to buy the Xbox 360 in black as it would blend in better with other home theater components.

The Sony PS3 will be available in black, silver and white. Given Microsoft has gone the extra mile by providing exchangeable face plates, it may be possible that different colored consoles will also be made available - if not by Microsoft, then certainly by after-market suppliers.
