Xbox 360 Wired Controller Included With Xbox 360 Core System
The basic Xbox 360 Core package ($299.99) will ship with a standard, wired controller. Only the more expensive Xbox 360 Premium bundle ($399.99) will come with a wireless controller, amongst other extras such as a hard drive.

The Xbox 360 wired controller has a 9 foot long cord, and connects to the Xbox 360 console via USB. The Xbox 360 has 3 USB ports: 2 in the front of the console and 1 at the back.
These 3 USB ports allow gamers to connect as many as 3 wired controllers to the Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 supports up to 4 wireless controllers, and the additional 3 wired controllers mean that it can now support up to 7 controllers simultaneously.
The Sony Playstation 3, on the other hand, supports 7 wireless controllers, and there are no plans for the PS3 to make a wired controller available for its next-generation video games console.
Some gamers will find that playing with a wired controller actually has some benefits. Obviously, a wired controller doesn’t require batteries or recharging like the wireless controller, making it a more suitable choice for extended gameplay.
Also, the Xbox 360 wired controller is not subject to interference or signal attenuation, as could be the case in less than ideal situations with the Xbox 360 wireless controller.
Microsoft has recently confirmed that the Xbox 360 wired controller will be fully compatible with Windows XP-based PCs. As well as shipping with the Xbox 360 Core bundle, the wired controller will retail as an accessory for US $39.99.
