Picking the right XBox 360

My nephew wants a new Xbox and my siste has asked me to look into which is the best to buy since I know a bit about computers and like to PC game.

As I understand it there are three options:

Xbox 360 Arcade - which comes with a 20 gig hard drive and requires a "card" to store games - this one I basically rule out.

Xbox 360 Pro - which has a 60 gig hard drive

Xbox 360 Elite - which has a 120 gig hard drive.

Given these last two why would one spend the extra $100 to get the Elite. What are the advantages other than storeage and even that why is it so important in a gaming console (like dose it use a "Virtual" memory and this speeds up the game? Dose it come with extra things that justify the price. Hard drives of this size are cheap (unless you go to MS).
