How can I tell which release version I have? They are talking about 2nd. & 3rd. generation versions that don't have the original versions problems...

How can I tell which release version I have? They are talking about 2nd. & 3rd. generation versions that don’t have the original versions problems. Over heating and games that lock or freeze. I guess. Thanks
