I think there is a big cultural difference between Japan and US.
Japanese Xbox forums are in a whirl at the moment and US people seems not to care about it.

Most Japanese fans are very unhappy because they felt like tricked by Microsoft, especially those people who bought 360 already.
For them the release day was only 4 days ago, they feel like Microsoft saying
“Ha Ha ! we gonna release new one soon, too bad you guys spent money for us!”.

Basically, the HD DVD news apply not only for Japan but also for US as well as Euro, but nobody seems to be angry at this stage.
