C’mon, who actually THINKS this stuff up? The PS3 has custom-designed hardware BY sony (so they had very high up-front costs), a very expensive chip to make, and a blu-ray disc drive. Sony’s not going to be able to price it under $600, no way, no how.

Compare this to the xbox360, which has an IBM-created chip that had no research costs (it’s PowerPC, which IBM manufactures anyway), a cheap DVD drive, and nothing designed specifically BY microsoft. And even still, they’re losing $130 a pop.

It’s going to be a lot more expensive than the Xbox360.
